NICOLAS MAXENCE JUPILLAT: Nicolas is a skilled lawyer with a diverse background who has found his home at ILG Legal advocating for workers’ rights. Formerly an international human rights lawyer, Nicolas brings myriad skills fighting discrimination and harassment to the team. As an immigrant and the son of a war refugee, he knows all too well how conflict and prejudice can impact one’s path in life. Through his work in employment law, he is committed to creating an equitable workplace for everyone and empowering whistleblowers who defend the public interest.   Originally from France, Nicolas brings years of professional experience in academia, government, and business in North America, Europe, and West Africa. He is fluent in French and Spanish, and loves living in a multicultural city like San Francisco, where he can hear so many languages walking down the street.   Past Experience: Nicolas has experience in securities, corporate law, and criminal defense. Before joining ILG, he spent four years at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law where he taught various courses at the intersection of technology, human rights, and humanitarian law. Prior to moving to the United States, Nicolas produced the French Defense Ministry’s first comprehensive study on the law of cyber warfare, and became the first French national to join NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence. He also served as a liaison officer on behalf of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.   Nicolas volunteered with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to help develop ethical standards in Artificial Intelligence and led an international team of lawyers in the official French translation of Creative Commons 4.0 copyright licenses. He has also volunteered with Amnesty International and the University of Detroit Mercy Immigration Law Clinic.   Education: Nicolas graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in the top 10% of his class, specializing in privacy law and intellectual property. Prior to studying in the United States, he obtained a French law degree from the University of Auvergne and a Master’s degree in geopolitics from Panthéon-Sorbonne University and École Normale Supérieure de Paris.
